2018 Mazda3 vs. Competitors

The 2018 Mazda3 offers a stylish contemporary look, lots of standard safety features, and it?s fun to drive. Mazda moved the cabin back to emulate more expensive sports cars, resulting in a sporty design which looks like a rear-wheel drive sedan, though it is not. Some reviewers call the look "athletic" which offers hints to its sporty handling and suspension.

The base engine in the Sport trim is a 2.0 liter inline-4 offering 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. The Sport can be configured with either a rare 6-speed manual or a more common 6-speed automatic transmission. The Touring and Grand Touring trims use a 2.5 liter inline-4 engine offering 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Mazda has also put a lot of effort into the steering and handling characteristics of the Mazda3 using G-Vectoring Control which controls shift torque based on steering input for more confident cornering. They also use electric power steering which varies input based on the vehicle speed.

The interior of the Mazda3 offers comfortable front seating with luxurious available leather in the Grand Touring. An optional moonroof is available. The rear seat is split-folding for more cargo options. The instrument cluster is angled slightly toward the driver. Every Mazda3 comes with keyless ignition, Bluetooth, and a 7.0-inch infotainment screen.

Mazda3 comes with a load of safety features, including standard automatic emergency braking called Smart City Brake Support which will help avoid collisions below 12 mph. All models come with a backup camera, and Touring and Grand Touring offer blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. Grand Touring also offers a package which includes automatic emergency braking at higher speeds, active lane control, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control.
