2020 MAZDA CX-5 vs. 2020 Toyota RAV4

It's time for another battle of the crossover SUVs. This time it's the 2020 MAZDA CX-5 versus the 2020 Toyota RAV4, two of the best vehicles on the market in their class. But if you're shopping for a new crossover SUV, you want to know which one will best suit your needs, so let's check out which one comes out on top.

What's New?

This year, the RAV4 adds Android Auto to its pre-existing Apple CarPlay to plug a hole in its offerings. It also adds an off-road trim and a power driver's seat on the XLE trim. MAZDA, on the other hand, really kicks things up by making its suite of safety and driver aid features standard across the lineup, with automatic braking, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control. Though such features are available on the RAV4, Toyota doesn't offer that level of safety right at the base level.

Performance Numbers

In terms of performance, the CX-5 is a standout vehicle. The turbocharged fourcylinder engine puts out 250 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque as opposed to the 203 horsepower and 184 feet per pound that the Toyota RAV4's inline-four engine offers. That's even more impressive as the CX-5 has a six-speed automatic next to the RAV4's eight-speed automatic. If you're looking for a top-of-its-class small crossover SUV, there's no doubt that while the newest model of Toyota RAV4 is a refined vehicle, it can't match up to what the CX-5 has to offer.
